HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! [tomorrow]

i'm off to have a wikked halloween in toronto! yeeehaw.

10.29.2008

wtf weather

i've never seen such wikked lightning and heard cracks of thunder so loud; all the while having extremely gusty winds blowing pretty coloured leaves, and...blizzarding snow!? power outage, and ripped apart trees and branches crashing our fence!
that was one messed up storm. and yes, it's only october 29. i guess that's canada for ya! or...global warming. eek!

stinky!

just as how every celebrity seems to develop a clothing line, every celebrity seems to develop a fragrance. ohgod. i mean how much more money do you need? how much more crap will you continue to plaster your name on? it's way.too.much. [note: there are some good scents out there...gwen stefani for example. to me, she's managed to dominate in music and fashion. so her making the leap to the fragrance doesn't seem so far off. plus she has style all around. however, the same can't be said for others.]
which brings me to my discovery of today. i saw the funniest/worst/this is a joke right? fragrance developed by non other than country music star tim mcgraw. break for laughter.

the cleverly titled, mcgraw, by tim mcgraw is described as follows:
"the woodsy-spicy scent mixes bergamot and nutmeg with lavender, sandalwood and a touch of aged whiskey. The end result is a fragrance that's both modern and traditional – just like the star himself." [thank you people.com]
so i know what my bf is getting for christmas! ha-ha
i'm obviously kidding. why would i want him to smell like an old man country singer? okay, so he's only 41...but still, and also, why would i want him to smell like woods & spice & lavender? oh and whiskey? every girls dream! even if i did, why spend the money on the cologne? i could send him to a bar, make him walk home in the woods, roll around in some lavender fields, and then i can just sprinkle him with spice.
voila!

it's good to be...wax?

i remember this past summer, while in amsterdam with my bf, we were walking past madame tussaud's wax museum right around dusk. i was standing in front of the window, when the lights for the displays came on and i jumped. catching glimpses from my direct and peripheral vision, i was startled by the celebrities standing around me. [or should i say the eerily precise sculpted hunks of wax.] it definitely weirded me out for a moment or two, and then my bf and i carried on our way touring amsterdam.
now, months later, i saw on an entertainment show, the newly added wax figure of carrie underwood... and i couldn't actually tell the difference.
so having nothing better to do with my time, [being a sicky] i googled it up to see a close up version and still, it's not so easy to tell which is real and which is wax. especially when you're taking a glance.
a few things about this whole wax business though: a] it's freaky b] what a strange job to have! c] do they always keep the heat off in madame tussaud's so that they don't melt? hehe d] would one really want to be immortalized in wax? i think it would be way better to be turned into a simpsons character or something...but i guess you could make for some cool, long lasting candles or something.
anyway, take a look - can you tell the difference between the real and the wax?

creepy!!

in 4 months

today is exactly 4 months until i turn 25...eeek!!
is it too early to start the countdown?

yes, perhaps. but i've been sick for the past 3 days in bed and i know where i will continue to be for the rest of this week. gah!

so when i saw the date today, i thought of something better...but i guess it only means that i'm getting older. oh well, time can't be slowed or stopped. 4 months is still a lot of time though, but it's better than dwelling on being ill.

so the countdown is on.

2932 hours: 8 minutes : 40 seconds, 39, 38, 37...

the duchess

today i went to see the duchess with my mom and we loved it! i am a big fan of the period pieces; not so much of keira knightley, but i must say, i really liked her in this. usually in her movies, i can't help but do my impression of her. being all toothy and really putting on the english accent, enunciating all syllables [those who know me well have seen it numerous times] - but i didn't do it once this movie, the urge wasn't even there. the acting was so good in the duchess, that i actually spent the whole time feeling so terrible for her, her complete restraint from giving her husband what he truly deserved just made my heart ache. i kept whispering to my mom "oh just slap him, poison him, anything..." and by him i'm referring to the duke, played convincingly and creepily by ralph fiennes. yikes, now that's one hell of a good actor, because by the end of the movie, i hated him.

but aside from all the suffering she endured for the length of this movie, she actually looked surprisingly pretty to me.

and the costumes were fantastic! i always love the outfits in period films, the 18th century style. it looks awkward, wide, uncomfortable, and heavy, but as keira knightley's character, georgiana says to the duke in the film, "dress was the only way for women of that time to express themselves." so the clothing, the hair, the hats/head-dresses and the jewelry were all gorgeous. it is to be expected but i particularly liked every dress she wore in this movie and the extras too! stunning!

like in most romantic, period pieces, there is always an underdog. a true, genuine lover, that if given the chance, could sweep the leading lady off her feet and love her the way she deserves. a real man. not obsessed with titles, and heirs, but just decent and passionate in his love. but of course, is never given the chance. enter dominic cooper.

speaking of stunning...
he was really good in this movie, and i'm not just talking about his love scene with keira knightley. i was rooting for him the entire time. i always have a soft spot for the underdog. but especially when he is sooo gorgeous! it just made it that much harder to see his love dismissed. sigh

top5

so last night, my bf and i were driving around trying to figure out something to do for the later part of our night. he was running low on gas and we were trying to think quickly. we came to the conclusion first and foremost, which we have a number of times before, that london sucks. you pretty much need a car to get around conveniently and even when you do have one, there is no where amazing you need to be. most things in london are centered around going downtown, which used to be fun, but now is far less exciting. you know, depends on the occasion. anyway, since we were in car, that meant no drinks. so we thought...and thought...

we had been to a dinner out and movie the night before, and we had just left from playing some ten pin. we both didn't feel like going home yet, so one of us put out the idea of coffee. i don't like going for coffee, being a non-coffee drinker, but it was a place to be warm and just talk. so he said, "williams?" and i thought, ugh.
i've just never been into meeting up at coffee shops, ordering mocha, vanilla soy overpriced drinks. but we went.
so while we were sitting and chatting, i realized even more my dislike for these places. so here. my list of why i dislike williams & certain other coffee shops, which i didn't name[starbucks].
i brought up these issues last night while sitting in the booth and my bf laughed at the depth of my hatred, which you could tell was growing the more and more i looked around and analyzed my surroundings.
all in all, it was still a fun date because we were together, but here's my list:

top5 reasons i dislike williams/coffeeshops
1. the people that go there a) to "study" b) the pretentious university kids and their overpriced "specialty" drinks c) the people that go there to drink alcohol
2. the decor is tacky. the bench cushions, the floor, the over use of teal, the bright blue lights. nothing meshes. and the seating - if you're not lucky enough to sit in a booth, you get stuck in a tiny little, wrought iron uncomfortable chair. [to be fair, a lot of restaurants have tacky carpets and bench seats that don't match, but when you notice that many things in one place it's just an overload]
3. the waiting system. williams is a coffee shop. so why do i have to sit and wait at my table with a plastic number for my food and drinks. i'm not in an actual restaurant, so why is it pretending to be one?
4. the bus boys walking around with their dirty dish bins, clanging dishes and looking over you to see if you have any sips left in your cup before they take it. can't they just wait until i stand up to leave? i mean the place wasn't full of people waiting to be seated.
5. the worst of all. the music. note: yesterday was october 11. october..so why the hell were they playing christmas music on the speakers?! why! when we first sat down my bf commented, "this place reminds me of christmas, i don't know why." we chalked it up to my hot chocolate, being warm, last time we sat in a coffee shop together our limbs were frozen, we could hardly drink our hot drinks because our teeth were chattering so much. but then we listened. there it was, rudolph the red nose reindeer filling our surroundings. i just groaned. we haven't even eaten our thanksgiving turkey's yet, and they are stuffing us with christmas.
i actually like christmas, and christmas music, but in december. i like the specialness of christmas which is quickly losing it's magic when you are bombarded with it more than two months in advance.

especially in a williams...UGH!

anyway, on a happy note...happy thanksgiving! yum!

what a [hilarious] sight!

jim carrey sure gave everyone a hilarious site while on a beach stroll with girlfriend, jenny mccarthy. hilarious. i don't know any guy that would have the guts to pull something like that. nice to see that some celebs do have a personality, and don't take the whole thing too seriously.
also, i want her dress!

18 yrs in the making

today i ran into my teacher from public school. my grade one teacher. it was something. she recognized my mom, from a run in during the summer, but she grabbed my arms and just stared at me.
"JESSICA!!" she exclaimed.
"MRS. ROBINSON" i said back.
she gave me a huuugggeee hug.
she said she would have passed me by, but when actually stopping to look, she said i hadn't changed much. which i don't think is a bad thing. i was cute in grade one. haha. we chatted a while. it was a nice person to randomly encounter, and it left me with a smile on my face and a feeling of niceness. while walking away, i turned to my mom and i said, "wow, my grade one teacher. that makes me feel old"...she said, "how do you think mrs. robinson feels?"
haha, so true.

politics

VS.

tonight is the vice presidential debate!

watch it; if not for the actual politics and statistics, then for the laugh factor of governor palin trying to answer[avoid] questions. i'm so glad to be canadian!

also, with the usa's election fast approaching, the increasing number of celebrities trying to get people to register to vote is growing. but does it really work? do ads like this actually make one register to vote?

**note** canadians head to the polls on tuesday, october 14th. so go vote. the canadian debate is also on tonight. i'm going to be flipping between both. i really hope stephen harper gets out.

sc-hair-y, um, fashion?

stacy london and clinton kelly are trying to save the world from sweatpants, knee-length crotches, grubby shoes, booty shorts etc, etc, etc...the "pajama-fication of the nation"...but what about the hairy-fication?
i wonder what their opinions would be on these?

i think i'd rather have sweats! hell, i'd rather wear stripes, plaid, polka dots, puke yellow-green, orange-red and tie-dye layered one on top of the other - really, if this is "ready-to-wear, high fashion" then i'll leave it for someone else. i guess the hot new accessories will be giant hairbrushes, and mega size shampoo and conditioner bottles. might have to get a bigger purse.

yikes!

shadows

perfect shadows lie behind everything we see
under the foot of you, behind the hands of me
in hearts of the old, and eyes of the young
in everything spoken, in everything done
shadows cast to hide the souls but they still see

with movement and grace they dance across this place
they lurk in the background, they move from the trees
they pass you by in a chilly breeze
if shadows could speak they would have volumes to say
of the homeless man on the corner, of the little girl who ran away

but the sunniest and happiest of days are when
shadows love to play and begin
they spy on young love in fields of green
hiding in the grass observing the unseen

they are cast behind the good and the bad, the love and the hate
shadows are not limited in where they create
always changing, swiftly moving, keeping pace
the one thing you can never out-race
under foot, by your side, like a friend from a better day
dancing behind you because it knows no other way

- me -
