bond.james bond.

i'm using the line in my title because it wasn't said in the movie, though it didn't really need to be. everyone already knows who he is anyway. i mean the idea that bond can move around unrecognized is just silly now. this movie however, was not silly, not in the least.
there were definitely aspects i really enjoyed, a few things i was happy to see gone, and a few things i didn't like. so here's my opinions. i still, of course, recommend this movie to all. i enjoyed it more than the last bond, and probably more then the bond before that, AND the bond before that...but don't ask me to justify all of that because i can't really remember all the details from the previous bonds. i mean, there's been like what now, 22 or something? c'mon.

likes:
jam packed with action - exciting chase scenes from foot, to car, to planes
painful/believable looking stunts (swinging in balconies, running/skidding on tile roofs, leaping over railings etc.)
daniel craig's eyes
the scenery shots
the fact they omitted sooo many innuendos and corny one liners - finally! in previous films it was just over kill - the few insinuations/innuendos and sarcastic phrases said in this movie made me chuckle
the cool gadgets - expected (but there could have been more) - and for my bf, bond's sunglasses
the idea that revenge was on the agenda. made for an action packed, entertaining movie.

dislikes:
the annoying opening theme song featuring alicia keys and the white stripes guy
the hair of the side kick to main bad guy, dominic greene. it reminded me of jim carrey's hair in dumb and dumber
the unrealistic part when they fled the plane with one parachute, and managed to open it only moments before falling into rubble and rocks and then getting up completely unscathed. not even a twisted ankle? and then the fact she climbed out of the rocks and walked into the desert with bare feet?
that's hollywood for you!

it's not my ultimate professional job, and currently it's just seasonal...but there is potential to stay on & it is exactly what i need. yes, NEED!!!! as those of you know, i've been complaining lately about a lack of pay cheque. well everyone, complaints no more!

[however, i'm going to have to start depending on the bus, so i withdrawal my previous statement.]
the possibility of complaints to come. hehe. but don't hate me, the bus really does stink!

the secret life of bees

another fun movie date with my mom and another fantastic movie. from the beginning to the end, it was so powerful and emotional. either on the edge of tears because of happiness or sadness, i was always on the brink. i spotted most of the audience with tissues in hand, dabbing their eyes. it was almost impossible not to at least well up. the acting was really really well done. from pals dakota fanning and jennifer hudson, to bitchy sister alicia keys, to super sweet queen latifah, to troubled sophie okonedo...the performances were all incredible, and it was quite the group of leading ladies.
here's the synopsis.
"the secret life of bees" is the tale of lily owens, dakota fanning, a teenage girl who is haunted by the memory of her late mother. the movie takes place in south carolina in 1964, right at the height of civil rights. to escape her lonely, troubled life and relationship with her father, lily and roasaleen (her friend and caregiver, played by jennifer hudson) set off on an adventure to a town that holds the secrets of her mother's past. lily finds herself on the doorstep of the boatwright sisters, and is taken into their world of love, beekeeping and, friendship, as she finds the answers to what she was searching for all along.

i would definitely recommend this movie and though i've yet to read the book, i'm sure it's just as powerful. for sure to be my next read.

barack obama has done it! history in the making, right here. a time which we will be telling to our grandchildren one day. here is his acceptance speech. part one/two from tuesday, november 4, 2008. a night to remember.

why i don't take the bus

i try to avoid taking the bus at all costs and today reaffirmed why. i had some extra time, and in my desperation of needing a job, i took advantage of the hour to hand out as many resumes and fill out as many job app's as i could - even though it meant taking the bus. the ride there was just how i like it. minimal waiting, minimal people, and a fast ride. the trip back made me cringe! waiting at the stop this woman with drawn on eyebrows and make-up caked on so thick you could see her mask coming far before you could even notice her red jacket. she came up and started engaging me in a conversation i wasn't wanting to have in the first place. the whole time she talked about her life story of a medical career, and medical conferences, and who knows what else [she didn't stop chatting even when motorcycles were roaring by, and i was focusing more on her clown face than her words]; so i did the ever pleasing, smile and nod.
after i finally backed away enough that said woman got the point and took her make-up crusted face out of my view, and stuck it in a duo tang, another woman came up to the stop. i made the mistake this time of asking her one simple question about the bus, as i noticed she had the schedule with her. however that one question somehow developed into a conversation about how she loves the bus because her ex-boyfriend treated her terribly by never taking her anywhere, and thus for her to have any independence, or sense of fun she gravitated to the bus to get out into life. sad really. but she was helpful in the beginning, so i was friendly back. she wondered why i wasn't familiar with the bus route, so i said just i was up here to pass out resumes. she then asked if i had any resumes left, because she was going to be passing by a place she noticed was hiring, and would drop off a resume for me. hmmm...just a nice offering of goodwill? sure, maybe, perhaps...but i've seen way too many creepy movies of people figuring out all your personal information and stealing your identity! i made up some excuse as to not hand her a resume, obviously, that would be a stupid thing to do.
after my enthralling conversations, i stepped onto a crowded bus and held onto the scuzzy pole all the way back.
