They say
Love grows
When the fear of death
Looms.
They say
Courage looms
When the fear
Of never loving again
Disappears
In the smell of the enemy
Who crushes us so much
We can only fight.
Love and courage grow together
When the flesh is rawest
And the spirit charged
And distorted within the nightmare
We see the possibility
Of a future.

bear grylls

bear grylls is a force to be reckoned with. at 23, he was entered into the guiness book of world records as the youngest, and one of only around 30, british climbers to climb mount everest and return alive. 23?!?! are you freaking kidding me? when i was 23, i was ...hmm...well, i can't even remember anything nearly as daring as that entering my mind. whether you watch his show, "man vs. wild" or not, or read his books,..you have to respect his fearlessness with nature. he is a karate black belt, and spent 3 years in the british special air service. he survived and rehabilitated himself after breaking his back in 3 places after a free-fall parachuting accident in africa. i'm sure he's suffered other injuries in his years as well, but this guy just doesn't give up.
i am obsessed with the show "man vs. wild". it's annoying how bear is taking flack for being fake on the show, because he travels with a camera crew etc. first of all, the camera crew helps to capture the moments and crazy views, which makes the show so enjoyable and exciting! i've watched episodes of his "competition", les stroud on "survivorman" and he claims to be doing it all himself. well, that's great and all, but what he doesn't realize is that watching his own, little scraggly camera view, of him getting screwed over for warmth because he decided to set up shelter at the bottom of a mountain, is BORING! his personality lacks, and though he is a canadian, and a great survivor, for entertainment value, it just doesn't compare. plus, let's face it. even reality tv shows aren't real..it's all edited, or scripted! les stroud spends 7 days in his destinations with no help, but the episodes aren't 7 days long. there's always editing and who-knows-what behind the scenes. bear still teaches many life saving tricks and tips, and does it in a more amusing way. not to mention his variety of surroundings are definitely more exciting and extreme than the destination choices of mr.stroud. you never know what bear will eat: rotting zebra, dead frogs, snakes or even draining water out of elephant poo to stay hydrated. i mean, come on!
in all honesty, i must say, bear is easy on the eyes. and i do have a crush on him haha, but i also think he is a very entertaining, ultimate survivor. i love "man vs. wild". my bf surprised me with season one last year and now season two is out, and so if it's not too early to start thinking of christmas presents...haha..
i also read on the internet that he has confirmed yukon as a destination shoot. though, it didn't confirm a date. but that is awesome, and if you know me, you'll know why.
now, if you'll excuse me, i must go accompany mr. grylls for a toast.(ha, i wish!)
