in fashion

victoria beckham has launched a new collection for spring 2009. to no surprise, she stamped her name[money] onto creations actually designed by christina ferrari, a young italian designer. i'm not one to follow along in the new and upcoming collections. most run way items are completely unwearable, unpractical and not my taste. and not to mention acquiring one would send me into debt. that being said, i actually like the designs shown - even though linked to victoria beckham. i do not think she offers much in any medium, but now is she stealing the credit from the actual designer? or is this just how fashion works, anyone with money can come out with a label. so i wonder, who should really be getting the credit. the person who has the image, the celebrity-fashion-icon? the one with all the money? or the one doing the sketching, sewing, creating?
with all the politics over fashion labels and lines aside, i think the pieces are classic and some are very lovely.

here are the downsides:
- it's victoria beckham
- they all look like they were designed only for victoria beckham, and not for the average woman - they claim to be very wearable but by the majority? i find it doubtful.
- the price. they range from 1,500 $ to 4,000 $ - yikes!
- the designs are repetitive [does it count as an actual collection when you're showing the same item in different colours?]
- the lines are classic, yes, but simplistic and look like they could have been put together by any celebrity/designer. she's staying on the safe side for clothing...but for hairstyles?...

with the new style she unveiled at NYC fashion week she maybe should have attached her name to some peter pan inspired belted frocks over tights. very pixie.

I actuly do like thoughs dresses but the whole thing about Vicky putting her name on them even though she is not doing anything is how it is with most things as in music too how may artists are around just for the money and the fame that are not actuly good and don't write there own songs but still have there faces and there "voice" plastered everywhere.
Also if you are able to spend $4,000 on a dress you are probley rich enough not to want a dress by "victoria beckham."
Victoria should just stick to Target and Kmart like everyone else.

you're right about the music industry sarah.
also good point, if i had 4,000$ to spend on clothes, i wouldn't be buying her line.
